Spa View Circle

The Spa View Residence is located on Spa Creek in downtown Annapolis. Our goal for this project was to enhance the beauty of this stunning home when viewed from the water, as well as, allow the homeowner a private area with a spectacular view of the creek from the veranda.

We were fortunate to have worked with this client on a previous project and thus had a clear understanding of their personal taste and style. Our client wanted the newly installed landscape to have the look and feel of a mature landscape, a simple color pallet and a modest selection of plants all combined to create an intimate and secluded outdoor living space.

We created two large curvilinear gardens off the rear of the house in order to completely hide the large veranda and pool while viewing the property from the water yet still allowing the entrance to the veranda to be visible. A large Red Maple was planted to soften the vertical structure of the house. Green Beauty Boxwoods were planted along the 200 feet of water front in order to define the space. Green, pink, blue and white were the colors to be incorporated into the gardens.  In addition, Sweetbay Magnolias, Natchez Crape Myrtles and Red Maples were used to add a vertical element to the gardens, while Boxwood, Pink Drift Roses and Hydrangeas cover the ground plain.

In order to add an extra splash of color and texture throughout the spring and summer seasons we installed Peonies, Hibiscus and Verbena. Planters filled with Single Stem Crape Myrtles, Boxwood and seasonal annuals not only provide visual interest but help to create a sense of space on the large veranda.

The client asked that we incorporate their collection of statuary art into landscape. Each piece of art was carefully placed throughout the garden to give the feeling that gardens were built around them and help reinforce the impression of a mature landscape. For evening enjoyment, low voltage lighting was installed to define the space and ensure the gardens could be viewed from all vantage points. The end result of the project is a stunning outdoor space that the clients enjoy year round and takes the full advantage of the dramatic views both from the water and within.
